Synopsis
In present-day Hyères-les-Palmiers in the south of France, Robin, a young filmmaker, reminisces about the initial idea for his film. He wants to make a film about a festival he never experienced: the Hyères International Festival of Young Cinema. A 1970s RTF (French Radio and Television Broadcasting) report introduces us to the town. Through these black and white urban impressions, the voice of Guy Gilles attempts to define the state of a different kind of cinema. From this archive, three trajectories emerge and intertwine. Bob gives a portion of his potato harvest to Baptiste so that he can grow them in turn. Both seem to live on the fringes of society. They help each other and stave off boredom together. Nassim and Lucie, two local youths, punctuate their languid days between the beach and trendy hangouts for Hyères' young crowd. They envision a shared future in the flourishing sector of nursing homes. Faced with his grandmother's discouraging advice, Robin tries to find answers by immersing himself in the history of this festival, which was a beacon of hope for a generation of filmmakers and film enthusiasts in post-1968 France.
